Luigi Parenti – Fangio’s Ferrari mechanic

A larger than life character and a familiar sight in the Ferrari pits during the 1950’s was Luigi Parenti -Fangios mechanic. Continue reading “Luigi Parenti – Fangio’s Ferrari mechanic”

This helmet started life as a 1/8 scale Minichamps Damon Hill Jordan helmet. I wanted to create the helmet Alonso would have worn when he drove for McLaren. The move to McLaren from the Renault team promised much but it soon turned out to be a mistake for everyone involved that year. And what a clash – at Suzuka in 1990 for the Japanese Grand Prix (the penultimate round of the season) all eyes were on the two main protagonists sitting on the front row of the grid; Ayrton Senna and Alian Prost. Continue reading “Clash of the Titans at Suzuka”

It’s difficult to believe that Jacky Ickx himself never had any interest in becoming a racing driver! In a recent interview in Motor Sport magazine, he says that after his father brought him to the Spa circuit when he was a youngster he was so bored he wanted to go home…….some years later he was driving for Enzo Ferrari in Formula 1! A brace of Silk Cats from 1987 – both 1/24 XJR-8’s from Hasegawa # 4 car driven by Boesel and Cheever and #5 by Watson & Lammers. Hasegawa also produced kits of the XJR-9’s (which swept to that historic victory in 1988). The kits include wonderful sets of decals (including the tobacco branding) for all the TWR cars entered in Le Mans that year. I actually have all of those kits in my “stashâ€, and at some future date I hope to get around to building them – hopefully before the decals begin to “mellow & yellowâ€! I eventually got all the decals applied and pretty much 99% of the painting finished (still some areas I’m not totally happy with) – so nearly there with this figure. I used the Hobby Design decals – not as good as MSM’s (very thin decals requiring careful handling & lots of carrier film to be trimmed).  The fit of the decals on the helmet were very poor – lots of surgery required – in fairness the decals were probably mastered for a generic helmet shape, so I shouldn’t complain. I used a little licence on the Hans device with … Continue reading Michael Schumacher Monaco 2006 1/20 Driver figure (GF-models)
I didn’t have much time today to spend painting, so I grabbed another of the primed wargame figure I have near my bench and whenever I had a few moments during the day, I painted this little figure of Napoleon Bonaparte. This is from a set produced by Foundry Miniatures of Bonaparte and his Marshals – the set consists of 12 foot figures including some of his well known officers and aides. Once again, I enjoyed just mixing the colors and getting it done in the day – so one down and eleven to go!  I’ll paint up some others … Continue reading Napoleon – 28mm Wargame – Foundry Miniatures
The “more progress” I refer to is that, I’ve applied the undercoat/primer, however, on the other hand, the “more work” refers to the fact that I purchased another Revell F10 kit!!! – I just can’t believe what I did – I’m still in shock – it’s at least 20 years since I built a plastic formula 1 kit and then, in the space of a month, I’ve started two!  Since I started the first one I’ve really been bitten by the bug in more ways than one – I absolutely love the lines of the F10 – (it’s a clear … Continue reading Revell Ferrari F10 X 2! – more progress and more work!
Still sticking with my miniature driver figures, I spent the afternoon refining the painting on this 1/20 figure of Ayrton Senna. The figure is by CRAFT10 – a resin casting with brilliant crisp surface detail sporting a good facial likeness and a nice relaxed pose.   I’ve depicted him in wearing his Rothmans overalls from the tragic ’94 season at Williams, and rather than the Senna “S” logo on the T shirt, I decided to paint on the logo of his childrens charity, the “Senninha” foundation – which thankfully is still going strong with the guidance of his sister.  As I’m … Continue reading Ayrton Senna Senninha 1/20 scale driver figure
