Lotus 38 Car #82 – Indy’ 500 Winner 1965 – Jim Clark

Lotus 38 #82 Jim Clark Indy 500 Winner 1965

In my humble opinion this is one of the most iconic race cars from the 1960’s.  Driven by Jim Clark to victory in the Indianapolis 500 it was a total “Game Changer” in terms of race car design as it was the first rear engined car to win at the Brickyard and thereby sealing the doom of the front engined roadsters – no front engined car would ever win the 500 Indy again. Running out of space in my “Modelling Farm” – so it’s time for a change!

Lotus 38 STP Special Indy 500 1966

I’m in the process of trying to reorganise my studio at the moment as I need more bench space to accommodate all of the different projects which I have in various stages of partial completion. Continue reading “Running out of space in my “Modelling Farm” – so it’s time for a change!”

Our “Nige” – 1/18 driver figure

Using an original (stripped down) Minichamps 1/18 driver figure I’ve painted this in acrylics and added some MSM decal to create Nigel Mansell in the garbe he would have worn while driving “Red 5” otherwise known as; the Williams FW14b.  I added the comms link and breather tube to the helmet and I finished it with a couple of coats of Klear and I also applied matt varnish on the suit to seal in all the decals – (which were tricky to fit as they are intended for use on a 1/20 scale figure) – so plenty of Mocrosol a … Continue reading Our “Nige” – 1/18 driver figure

Kyosho Ferrari 575GTC

Another of my diecasts – this time a 1/18 Ferrari with all the bells and whistles – opening panels – beautiful paint finish – highly detailed interior and everything else you would expect from Kyosho.  Once again, I’ll paint up a 1/18 Schumacher figure to” keep watch over it”!  and perhaps I’ll also apply some racing decals on the car itself .  In the meantime enjoy the pic’s. Kyosho Shelby Cobra – race version

I recently started to catalogue my Diecast collection which is a mixture of road and race cars in various scales.  Starting with this one (a Shelby Cobra 427), I thought it would be an idea to feature each one in a posting on my Blog.  It’s a 1/18 scale racing version of one of the most iconic American muscle cars, the Shelby AC Cobra.  It features a cut down race screen (which I really like) together with sponsorship decals, full safety harness and race number.  The overall finish is superb, and the hood, trunk and doors all open to reveal … Continue reading Kyosho Shelby Cobra – race version

Gilles Villeneuve driver figure – more progress….

….well sort of!   In an effort to establish a useable color for the helmet, I decided to have a close up look at my 1/18 scale Exoto diecast 312T4 (which contains a really nicely finished driver figure).  From the many reference photos I’ve seen of his helmet, it’s hard to determine the actual shade of blue used.  I suppose it depends on all sorts of variables including reflected light etc, and in trying to replicate any color on a miniature, the main variable (in my own opinion) is: “does it look right”?   So in an effort to finally decide what … Continue reading Gilles Villeneuve driver figure – more progress….

Michael Schumacher – 1/20 Driver Figures

I eventually had to take a break from the sketching, and today I spent a couple of hours blocking in the main values on these two resin Schumacher figures.  They are both 1/20 scale made by GF- models – I’ve modified them slightly by adding the gloves.  I’ll use decals for the “Marlboro” version , however, as I don’t have ones suitable for the “Barcode” version I’ll have to paint in the main logos.  I’ve already drilled out the parts of the helmets to take the visor lugs, radio cable and drink tube – more on these two later…meanwhile I’ll … Continue reading Michael Schumacher – 1/20 Driver Figures

Ayrton Senna 1/20 scale figure – WIP

Still working on my WIP line-up.  This one is of Ayrton Senna (an old Modellers figure) 1/20 in resin.  I decided to depict him wearing his own logo on what was going to be a very plain white t shirt.  Using acrylics, I’ve blocked in the main colours and have  added the stitching detail on the suit.  I’ll add some Marlboro logos and the like to inject more interest and in particular, I’ll add a large Marlboro panel to the back of the suit…… and the work continues – more later.
