Driver figures in progress at the moment

Target drivers

Some of the figures I have on the bench at the moment are hopefully going to finish up as the characters in the collage above, so I’m using the photos as a reference for painting up their suits & logos etc,   Pironi and Villeneuve are both in there as I’m planning a small vignette from their big bust-up at Imola in ’82.  On that occasion Villeneuve would have been wearing his distinctive white suit with Pironi wearing red. Ayrton Senna -“Getting ready to be famous” – (part 2)

Senna Helmet and gloves

My earlier post about a Senna figure vignette entitled “Getting ready to be famous” refers. As the piece is now on Ebay featuring a revised helmet and gloves combination I’m posting pictures here of how that revision to the helmet and gloves was carried out. Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 Spa Belgium 1991 -1/43 scale figure

Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 Spa Belgium

I always liked the look of this particular figure from Denizen Miniatures.  Like all the figures in the Denizen range they have wonderful anatomical proportions for tiny 43rd scale, so I plucked this one from my stock of primed and based figures this morning and decided that I would paint him up as Michael Schumacher in his 7up Jordan colours when he made his F1 debut back in 1991.  Had he not been poached away by Flavio to the Benetton team, things might have worked out differently for EJ’s team…….bla bla … and if pigs could fly Continue reading “Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 Spa Belgium 1991 -1/43 scale figure”

Getting ready to be famous!

I set up this little vignette using a modified Denizen 43rd scale metal figure and a Minichamps Lotus.   It’s based on the famous photo taken before he clinched his first victory in Portugal in 1985.  Ayrton Senna sits dejected at the rear of his JPS Lotus 97T after it’s clutch broke during practice for the Portugese Grand Prix in Estoril.  He overcame a number of technical problems (switching to his spare car) and qualifying on pole for the race.  Continue reading “Getting ready to be famous!”

“Le Petit Professeur”!

This is another of my 1/43rd scale driver figures.  Cast in metal by Denizen it has a remarkable likeness to Alain Prost! aka: “Le petit Professeur”. Other than using one “Marlboro” decal for the back of the figure, I finished the rest in Valejo acrylics (using a little bit of artistic licence here and there!) followed by two protective coats of matte varnish.  The gloves (which are cast flat) are also a Denizen item.  I was undecided about how to place them with the figure so I used two pairs (one flat and the other I bent with a pair … Continue reading “Le Petit Professeur”!

Jackie Stewart 43rd scale

I got most of the details added to this Denizen figure over the week-end.  I decided to paint it up to represent Jackie Stewart – so hopefully with the addition of the tartan on the helmet (which I painted on) and perched beside the 1969  Matra (a Quartzo model which I removed the driver from) it goes some way to looking like JYS !  I’m not able to pin it down exactly, but midway through 1969 I believe Jackie moved from th Buco open face to the full face Bell helmet, so this figure represents the attire he would have … Continue reading Jackie Stewart 43rd scale
