Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 scale driver figure
Another of the driver figures I have just added to my Work in Progress stock is this one of Gilles Villeneuve. The figure is by GF-models and apart from being very nicely detailed it has an excellent likeness to the man himself. So far, I’ve just slightly modified the hair (to make it slightly longer) and I’ve also added some detail to the polo necked fireproof under vest.  As I have three figures of Gilles to make and paint, I’ve decided to depict him wearing different overalls representing different periods from his short driving career – this version will be … Continue reading Gilles Villeneuve 1/20 scale driver figure
Jim Clark – Indy 500 – Acrylic on canvas
Still on the “Jim Clark” theme, I’m using a Sepia technique for this image from the 1967 Indy 500 of Clark driving his “STP Oil Treatment Special” (which was essentially a Lotus 38).  He won there in 1965 and was second in ’66, however, in ’67 he retired with 35 laps left and was ranked 31st overall. I’m using acrylics on a canvas panel – so far so good – hope to finish it tomorrow – that’s if I can resist the temptation to introduce “color” into it, (it always goes a little pear shaped when I start going … Continue reading Jim Clark – Indy 500 – Acrylic on canvas
Jim Clark Lotus 49 – Acrylic on canvas (completed)
I think I’ll leave it at that – (see my previous post) I’m pretty happy with how it turned out so I’ll stop now before I start fiddling! Todays out-put was this completed painting and I also started painting a miniature resin figure of Gilles Villeneuve – so I’ll post up progress pictures of that next – cheers for now. Jim Clark Lotus 49 – Acrylic on canvas
I started putting this famous image of the late great jim Clark driving his Lotus 49 onto canvas with acrylics. I initially “warmed” up the canvas with a wash of cad yellow orange and then blocked in the main shapes and values. I’m pretty happy with it so far, so I’m going to take a break and get back to painting the rest of those miniature driver figures. More on this later. Michael Schumacher – 1/20 Driver Figures
I eventually had to take a break from the sketching, and today I spent a couple of hours blocking in the main values on these two resin Schumacher figures. They are both 1/20 scale made by GF- models – I’ve modified them slightly by adding the gloves. I’ll use decals for the “Marlboro” version , however, as I don’t have ones suitable for the “Barcode” version I’ll have to paint in the main logos. I’ve already drilled out the parts of the helmets to take the visor lugs, radio cable and drink tube – more on these two later…meanwhile I’ll … Continue reading Michael Schumacher – 1/20 Driver Figures
Jackie Stewart – Matra MS10 Pencil sketch
Still working with the pencil I worked up this image of Jackie Stewart driving what I think is one of the nicest looking of the Matra F1 cars. Continue reading Jackie Stewart – Matra MS10 Pencil sketch
Jo Siffert “Seppi” – original pencil sketch
He has to be one of the “coolest” of F1 drivers – always slightly ruddy and dishevelled with a “devil may care” look sporting stylish aviator sunglasses and the regulation Marlboro hanging from the side of his mouth – a mixture of Steve McQueen and James Dean! :Wikipedia I’ve been enjoying doodling for the last two days using just pencil and paper (something I haven’t done for many years) so it’s nice to be re-united with my base skills -very relaxing. An original pencil sketch 18×12 inches approx (12 x 8 when mounted). The photo shows the full uncropped sketch. Continue reading Jo Siffert “Seppi” – original pencil sketch
Eddie Jordan – pencil sketch
Still no word on Eddie’s fate at the BBC (see my last posting) – I couldn’t get going on those miniature driver figures I’m painting at the moment, so I decided instead to do a sketch of “EJ” – a kind of tribute if you will!!! An original pencil sketch – 40X27cm on 150gsm paper. Continue reading Eddie Jordan – pencil sketch
Big changes in the BBC F1 team- but what about EJ????
I see it announced today that the BBC F1 commentating line-up is being changed, whereby Jonathan Legard is being replaced as the main commentator by Martin Brundle and he in turn will be partnered by David Coulthard – so what of the fate of Eddie Jordan? In my opinion I’d have to say he just didn’t appear to have what it takes to gell in that type of set-up.  He is obviously very knowledgeable in relation to the world of F1 racing (given his previous experience as team owner), however, his regular verbal ramblings were both irritating and confusing not … Continue reading Big changes in the BBC F1 team- but what about EJ????
Waffen SS – Bastogne 1/16 scale vignette
I resurrected this unfinished piece over the week-end from my on-going WIP store. Having watched that wonderful episode of “Band of Brothers” (set in the town of Bastogne in the Ardennes forest) I remembered that I had started a vignette for last years annual show which I ran out of time on, so I dug it out and started putting the finishing touches to it. Both figures are molded in plastic by Dragon (with a few modifications of my own) – cheap and cheerful with great potential … more on these two later.
