F1 Flag Marshal

A common sight at the Grand Prix circuit these days is the Flag marshals decked out their colourful gear – they are a wonderful band of volunteers performing a key role during practice, qulaifying and on race day. Without them the running of a modern high octane Grand prix would be a very dangerous and confused undertaking. F1 back in the USA 2012.

Following a break of four years, the Formula 1 circus will once again visit the USA this year with a round of the championship being held in the Lone Star State (Texas) at a newly built circuit in the city of Austin. Continue reading “F1 back in the USA 2012.”
Steve McQueen – aka Michael Delaney – Le Mans 24 hours
Forty years on and the iconic imagery generated by the Film “Le Mans” is as strong as it ever was and continues to live on in all sorts of ways; from posters to mugs and T shirts and of course Steve McQueen is in my opinion what gives the whole le mans thing it’s special ingredient. McQueen, apart from being one of those grity actors, he was also a pretty good race driver and he actually partnered Peter Revson in a Porsche in the Sebring 12 hours back in 1970 – so a pretty handy man behind the wheel. Another little Schumi!

Following on from the Schumacher figure I did of him in Jordan livery, I did this one from his early stint with the Benetton team – (91/92 I think) – that leaves me with two further variants of the livery from his time with Benetton to do Continue reading “Another little Schumi!”
Driver figures in progress at the moment

Some of the figures I have on the bench at the moment are hopefully going to finish up as the characters in the collage above, so I’m using the photos as a reference for painting up their suits & logos etc,  Pironi and Villeneuve are both in there as I’m planning a small vignette from their big bust-up at Imola in ’82. On that occasion Villeneuve would have been wearing his distinctive white suit with Pironi wearing red. Ayrton Senna -“Getting ready to be famous” – (part 2)

My earlier post about a Senna figure vignette entitled “Getting ready to be famous” refers. As the piece is now on Ebay featuring a revised helmet and gloves combination I’m posting pictures here of how that revision to the helmet and gloves was carried out. Primed and ready to go – more workbench progress.
All primed now and ready for base coating – the brass rod in the foreground is the flag pole for the waving guy in the background – (a sixties track official) – next time I’ll have base coats on them … Continue reading Primed and ready to go – more workbench progress.
Workbench update

I’m concentrating on 43rd scale at the moment to try and make some inroads on my vast supply of unstarted figures – about 200 at last count plus another 30 in various stages of being modified. Added to this lot are another crop of larger figures totalling 70 or 80 in a variety of scales ie, 1/20 & 1/18 and 1/12. Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 Spa Belgium 1991 -1/43 scale figure

I always liked the look of this particular figure from Denizen Miniatures. Like all the figures in the Denizen range they have wonderful anatomical proportions for tiny 43rd scale, so I plucked this one from my stock of primed and based figures this morning and decided that I would paint him up as Michael Schumacher in his 7up Jordan colours when he made his F1 debut back in 1991. Had he not been poached away by Flavio to the Benetton team, things might have worked out differently for EJ’s team…….bla bla … and if pigs could fly Continue reading “Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 Spa Belgium 1991 -1/43 scale figure”
Lewis Hamilton 1/20 scale driver figure – WIP
I just started blocking in the main colours on this 1/20 figure from GF-models. I don’t have any decals to suit, but my intention is to paint him up as Lewis Hamilton so I’m going to hand-paint the logos – we shall see and as they say: “all will be revealed!
